The Cape Epic has introduced a sister event in New Zealand – The Pioneer – also owned by Ironman, which recently acquired the former race.
The Pioneer multi-stage race will take place from February 5 to 11 on New Zealand’s South Island, and will take riders on a unique journey through pristine high country.
It is a 549km point-to-point course with over 15 000m elevation, taking in some of the most spectacular highlights of the Southern Alps.
These include the Port Hills of Christchurch, Aoraki/Mt Cook (NZ’s highest mountain), Lake Pukaki, the Ohau range, Pisa range and Snow Farm.
Each day’s racing ends in a different town, culminating with the finish in the adventure capital of New Zealand – Queenstown.
