PYGA Euro Steel have added two new signings to their three man team as they announced today that Julian Jessop and Phillimon Sebona would be joining the mountain biking outfit.
Team manager Ruan Lochner said the plan was for the pair to become stage partners as the team’s focus had shifted to marathon racing.
“I met Julian at the world championships in Andorra in 2015. His fighting spirit in that race showed a lot of character and from then on he has been on our radar,” he said.
The youngster’s signing comes on the heels of his success at the SA National MTB Championships, where he successfully defended his U23 national cross-country title.
Lochner said they’d been impressed by Sebona’s determination at the Magalies Monster MTB Classic.
“He recently did the Magalies Monster MTB race and he fought hard to take the win. That is the type a character that resonates with us.
“Phillimon has a lot of experience and his calm, ‘never give up’ attitude is something not all mountain bikers have.
“His story inspires a lot of people and is a true testimony of believing in your dreams.”
Jessop will continue to be coached by Mike Posthumus, while Sebona, who has never had a coach before, will be mentored and coached by teammate Matthys Beukes.
The pair will make their debut for the team at the National MTB Series event in Van Gaalen on Saturday, together with teammates Beukes, Philip Buys and Kombo Bere.
