The 100 Cycle Challenge has been granted UCI status, organisers announced today.
The event has been granted UCI Category 1.2 for elite/U23 men and women, which means riders in these categories will be able to earn ranking points at the one-day road race.

The 100km event is new to the calendar and is scheduled to take place in Ekurhuleni, Gauteng, in May next year.
The announcement came shortly after one of the country’s premier mountain bike event, TransCape, was also granted UCI status.
Other South African road events with UCI status include the KZN Summer Series races, the 947 Cycle Challenge and SA National Road Championships.
