Team Sky’s Michał Kwiatkowski won the 173.5km fifth and final stage of the Volta ao Algarve and secured the overall title at the same time.
The Polish rider completed the stage on the Malhão hilltop in 4:18:02, after soloing ahead of Trek-Segafredo’s Ruben Guerreiro (Portugal) and DiData’s Serge Pauwels (Belgium) in second and third respectively.

Kwiatkowski’s teammate Geraint Thomas (Britain) finished second on the final general classification, with BMC Racing’s Tejay van Garderen (USA) rounding out the podium.
Pauwels finished eighth on the final GC for DiData.
