Sascoc today announced that Bradley Potgieter will replace the injured Willie Smit in the 18-member cycling team representing South Africa at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games in Australia from April 4 to 15.
Smit sustained a fractured collarbone when he crashed out of stage two of the Volta ao Algarve in Portugal two weeks ago. As a result, he withdrew completely from the five-stage race.

Potgieter, who had taken on a captaincy role for SA at the Sharjah Tour in January, has been called up as the preferred replacement in the road race discipline.
The names of the officials accompanying Team SA’s cycling contingent to the Games have also been announced.
Included among them is Bosseau Boshoff who, with 20 years of experience behind his name, will be the coach of the road cycling team.
Boshoff yesterday spoke to In the Bunch about his goal of transforming young and up-and-coming cyclists in the country to professionals in the Nelspruit-based Team Infinita.
The officials are Elrick Kulsen (code manager), Bosseau Boshoff (coach road cycling), Annerine Wenhold (coach track), Erica Groenewald (coach mountain bike), Jean-Pierre Jacobs (mechanic road and mountain bike) and Pieter Jansen (mechanic track).
