Defending champions Nino Schurter and Matthias Stirnemann have had to withdraw from the Cape Epic, due to the latter falling ill.

The Swiss pair finished fourth in the prologue on Sunday and 29th in stage one yesterday where Stirnemann first experienced symptoms of a stomach bug.
Last year the Scott-Sram pair won the eight-day race, beating Investec-Songo-Specialized’s Jaroslav Kulhavy and Christoph Sauser into second by just over eight minutes.
