Team Dimension Data have announced that Mark Cavendish will return to racing next month after being injured when he crashed in the final stages of last month’s Milan-San Remo.
The British professional, who has not raced since he broke a rib and sustained an ankle injury on March 17, will line up at the Tour de Yorkshire that starts on May 3.
The injury also resulted in him missing the recent Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia.

“I’m delighted to have recovered sufficiently from my injuries at Milan-San Remo to be back racing sooner than I initially thought and what better way to do that than at what could be described as a home race for me, the Tour de Yorkshire,” said Cavendish.
He added that results-wise he was not sure where his form would be, having only had a couple of weeks back in the saddle.
“I’ll just be absorbing the atmosphere in one of the most beautiful places in the world,” he said.
Cavendish’s teammate, Serge Pauwels, will defend the title he won last year.
“I’m very excited to defend my title at the Tour of Yorkshire,” said Pauwels.
“It’s one of my favourite races, not only because I won it last year but because the course suits me and there is always a great ambience from the passionate spectators.”
He added that he had looked at the course again recently and it still appeared really difficult.
“There are two flatter stages but then the uphill finish on the second stage will probably change the dynamics of the race a little bit.
“The last day’s going to be really tough again so I’m really looking forward to racing Tour de Yorkshire again and especially as Mark will be there with us. It’s going to be a very important race,” said Pauwels.
