Alan Gordon won the first stage of the Sabie Xperience at Floreat Riverside Lodge in Sabie, Mpumalanga, yesterday.
Gordon completed the 65km course in 2:54:41 to beat Heine Engelbrecht (2:57:33) and Adriaan Myburgh (3:12:57).
Samantha Sanders, who signed for dormakaba in December last year, won the women’s race in 3:12:14. She was followed by Kirsten Gillespie (4:08:47) and Alexa Ogilvie (4:17:28).

Riders in the men’s 45km team event were led home by Valencia’s Emile Fourie and Mike Odendaal in 2:07:26. Johan Moller and Daniel Griesel of TrainingPoint finished second in 2:08:36, followed by Jean du Plessis and Dylan Nel of Velocity in 2:25:49.
For the mixed race, Lefty’s Angie and Armand du Randt took top honours in 2:28:19. Anna Gutierrez and Ricardo Gutierrez of Bonnie and Clyde were second in 2:38:48 and Christelle and Mark Meyer of Mankele Meyers third in 2:40:20.
Lisa Slabbert and Alison Emery of Valencia (2:47:11) rode to victory in the women’s team event. Second were Liqui Moly Warriors’ Melicia Labuschagne and Yolandi Mostert in 3:01:15, with Platinum Girls’ Tersia Roos and Delrie Ferreira (3:10:05) third.
