Tour of Britain results & GC: Stannard rides to victory on stage seven

English cyclist Ian Stannard crossed the line in first place on stage seven of the Tour of Britain in Mansfield today.

The Team Sky rider finished the 223km route, which kicked off in West Bridgford, in a time of 4:56:27.

He was followed home by Katusha-Alpecin’s Nils Politt and Bardiani CSF’s Giovanni Carboni.

Fourth place went to Wanty-Groupe Gobert’s Mark McNally, while One Pro Cycling’s Emils Liepins finished in fifth.

“Once I got in the break I was pretty confident. I looked at the guys and how they were riding all day and kind of knew I had the edge,” said the stage winner.

Quick-Step Floors’ Julian Alaphilippe defended his overall lead, with Team Sky’s Wout Poels in second and LottoNL-Jumbo’s Primož Roglič third.
