Cape Town Cycle Tour defending champion Kim le Court will be without the services of key domestique Azulde Britz when she lines up for the 41st edition tomorrow.
Britz, one of South Africa’s top young riders, was hit by a car while on a training ride yesterday.
After being assisted by the team’s manager, it was confirmed that the 18-year-old Demacon MaxWax rider, who made her national debut in the world road champs last year, did not suffer any major injuries or broken bones.
Le Court – who will line up alongside former champion Lynette Burger, Carla Oberholzer and Heidi Dalton – was sad that Britz would not be able to join the team in their bid to defend the title in what is arguably the country’s most prestigious one-day race.
“It’s very unfortunate that it happened to her, and especially on this weekend. Five is always better than four on the start line.
“She is still young and there are lots to come in the future.
“We’re just glad she is okay – not so much the bike though,” said Le Court.
The 78km women’s race will start at Recreation Road in Fish Hoek at 6am.
