South African cyclist Gustav Basson is in intensive care after his sedation was lifted following surgery he underwent in Middelburg last week.
“We keep on praying for healing and would like to take this opportunity to thank each and everyone for their support and prayers,” said his mother Mienkie in a statement.
“Gustav is smiling and as long as there is a smile, there is healing.”
The 23-year-old was involved in a car accident two weeks ago when he was driving in a vehicle with a friend and someone crashed into the back of them.
He broke his right upper femur which was successfully operated on.
