Daryl Impey and Reinardt Janse van Rensburg will be the only South Africans in the line-up when the Tour de France starts in Brussels tomorrow.
National road champion Impey will be the captain on the road for his Mitchelton-Scott team.
Team head sport director Matt White said Impey, 34, who will be making his seventh appearance at the event, was the oldest and most experienced in the squad and no stranger to the Grand Tour and how the team operated.
“I have a lot of faith in him and his decision-making. Besides being a super teammate and someone who has been part of many of our successes over the years, he is a guy who can be looking for opportunities throughout the month for a stage win.”
The other members of the eight-man squad are Luke Durbridge, Jack Haig, Michael Hepburn, Chris Juul-Jensen, Matteo Trentin, Adam Yates and Simon Yates.
The 30-year-old Janse van Rensburg, who placed fourth in this year’s national road champs, will be competing in the event for a fifth time.
He made his debut for Dimension Data four years ago and has seven top-10 finishes under his belt this season.
“I’m really looking forward to starting another Tour de France. I think we’ve got a good team to target stage wins and there are some good stages that suit me,” said Janse van Rensburg.
He will be joined by Edvald Boasson Hagen, Lars Bak, Stephen Cummings, Ben King, Roman Kreuziger, Giacomo Nizzolo and Michael Valgren.
With four-time La Grande Boucle champion Chris Froome absent from his Team Ineos squad, fellow teammate and defending champion Geraint Thomas is set to target a second consecutive win.
The 106th edition of the Tour de France ends in Paris on July 28.
