Slovenian Primoz Roglic won the individual time-trial on stage 10 of the Vuelta a España and took the race lead in Pau today.
The 29-year-old Jumbo-Visma rider recorded a winning time of 47:05.
Patrick Bevin (CCC Team) was second fastest over the 36.2km course, with Remi Cavagna (Deceuninck-Quick-Step) completing the podium.
“Every time-trial you try to do as fast possible, and it was the same mission today,” said Roglic.
“I’m happy with the performance for sure. I just tried to go all the time as fast as possible and yeah, it was enough at the end.”
Pawel Bernas (CCC Team) set an early benchmark when he crossed the line in 50:55.
Vasil Kiryienka (Ineos) then held the ascendancy after finishing 38 seconds faster, before Will Barta (CCC Team) went to the top of the leaderboard when he crossed a minute faster.
Benjamin Thomas (Groupama-FDJ) improved on Barta’s time by six seconds. Cavagna then stormed into the lead when he knocked 1:39 off Barta’s time.
Bevin set a new fastest time when he stopped the clock at 47:30, just two seconds better than Cavagna.
He remained at the top of the leaderboard until Roglic finished a further 25 seconds faster, taking both the stage and the overall lead.
Alejandro Valverde (Movistar Team) and Miguel Angel Lopez (Astana Pro Team) placed second and third overall.
Former leader Nairo Quintana (Movistar Team) moved down to fourth place.
