Knysna Bull results & GC: Beers, Terpstra win stage one and extend lead

Matthew Beers and Anne Terpstra won stage one and extended their overall lead at the Knysna Bull in the Harkerville area today.

Tristan Nortje (Imbuko Giant) took second overall and the U23 stage win, moving into the Young Bulls category lead.

Henry Liebenberg (Absolute Motion) finished third on the stage and was the second U23 rider across the line.

Kevin Evans (The Bike Shop) placed fourth and was the second Bull rider across the line, while Justin Tuck (Gear Change SA) came third in the main men’s category.

“I was impressed by Tristan,” said Beers. “He rode really well today and did a lot of work so that he can be more conservative over the next two days.

“From my point of view, it was a great stage. But it wasn’t easy. There are no free meters here. You’re always pedalling. It was like a two-hour session on an indoor trainer. Even the downhills require you to work.”

In the women’s race, Robyn de Groot (dormakaba) crossed the line in second, 59 seconds down on Terpstra. Barbara Benko (Ghost Factory Racing) completed the podium.

“For me the first hour, hour and a half, was harder than the finish,” said Terpstra.

“The route was really nice though and I enjoyed racing with Robyn. In the first 10km there was one particular singletrack that was really great. After that I could control the pace a bit more. It was hard, but controlled.”

Danielle Strydom (Trek Bikes) won the Young Bull women’s race. Frances Janse van Rensburg (Absolute Motion) and Christie Hearder (Absolute Motion) came second and third.

“I really enjoyed the track today,” said Strydom. “You could trust every corner. The singletracks were super smooth and enjoyable.”
