Fellow countryman and teammate Daniel Felipe Martinez (EF Pro Cycling) placed second overall, with Jonathan Caicedo (EF Pro Cycling) third.
The 182.6km sixth stage was won by Martinez, who beat Higuita and Egan Bernal (Team Ineos) into second and third respectively.
