This year’s SA National Road Championships in Swellendam will go ahead as scheduled.
With uncertainty over the future of several races and ongoing concerns over the Covid-19 pandemic, there had been fears the national champs would be delayed.
However, Cycling South Africa (CSA) today confirmed to In the Bunch that the event will go ahead as planned in the Western Cape town in March.
“Yes, this year’s SA National Road Championships is still on.
“It will take place as scheduled from March 18 to 20,” CSA confirmed when approached for comment.
The green light for the event represents good news for South Africa’s cyclists who have been itching to get back to competitive action.
Covid-19 concerns have already seen the Cape Town Cycle Tour, which was initially scheduled for early March, postponed until October, while the Rapport Tour’s return to the calendar has also been put on ice.
Ryan Gibbons and Daryl Impey are the reigning national men’s elite road and individual time-trial champions, respectively.
