Cycling South Africa has confirmed it will submit a request to the Western Cape government for the SA National Road and Track Championships to go ahead as planned.
This year’s national champs in Swellendam are due to take place from March 18 to 21.
In a tweet today, cycling’s governing body confirmed that, seeing as there has been no further Covid-19 level adjustments by government, it will seek permission for the championships to take place as scheduled.
Ryan Gibbons and Daryl Impey are the reigning national men’s elite road and individual time-trial champions, respectively.
Ashleigh Moolman is the defending women’s SA national road and ITT champion.
However, Gibbons confirmed to In the Bunch that he will not be defending his title.
At the time of publishing there has been no word regarding Impey and Moolman’s participation.
[UPDATE] 🇿🇦 Road & TT Championships
As there have been no further COVID level adjustments from @GovernmentZA, we are submitting a request to @WesternCapeGov for the Championships to proceed as planned from 18 to 21 March 2021.
We will issue a further update as soon as we can.
