Stefan de Bod’s star is on the rise and he appears destined to enjoy a highly successful – and lucrative – career in the saddle.
Having spent six years riding for Dimension Data, he made the switch to UCI WorldTeam Astana-Premier Tech in late 2020.
The cycling world is De Bod’s oyster.
Below, five things you perhaps didn’t know about the 24-year-old.
1. He was born in Worcester in the Western Cape on November 17, 1996.
2. At national level, De Bod is a three-time U23 individual time-trial champion (2016, 2017 and 2018) and a two-time U23 road winner (2016 and 2017)
3. He won the gold medal in the individual time-trial at the 2019 African Continental Road Championships in Ethiopia.
4. De Bod won the 947 Cycle Challenge in 2015 on his 19th birthday, becoming the youngest ever winner of the race.
5. He has taken part in one Grand Tour to date, the 2020 Vuelta a Espana, where he finished 94th.
