Janine Stewart overcame the muddy conditions and a sleep-deprived couple of nights in the saddle to claim overall victory in the Race to Cradock late on Monday evening.
Stewart completed the 580km self-navigated mountain bike race, which started at 05:00 on Saturday in Rhodes in the Eastern Cape, in 62 hours and 52 minutes and was the first entrant – male or female – across the finish line.
It was her fifth victory in the event which takes place on a segment of the Freedom Challenge: Race Across South Africa route.
