Ryan Gibbons put in a storming ride against the clock to win the elite men’s time-trial title at the SA National Road Championships in Swellendam today.
The 26-year-old entered the race as the hot favourite for victory and duly delivered, completing the 40km course in a time of 51:24.
Matt Beers (Typedev-Nanotime) finished second, 1:14 in arrears, while ProTouch’s Kent Main took the final step on the podium 1:47 adrift.
Gibbons displayed his star quality in claiming a “perfect” four golds from as many races at the recent African Continental Road Championships in Cairo, Egypt.
