Alan Hatherly and Candice Lill displayed their star quality at round one of the 2021 SA XCO Cup at Summerplace Farm in Limpopo today.
Hatherly, who represented South Africa at the Rio de Janeiro Olympics in 2016, took victory in the men’s elite category, beating Philip Buys into second with Arno du Toit in third place.
Hatherly completed the seven laps in a time of 1:30:48, with Buys 2:31 behind. Du Toit was a further 1:45 adrift.
Lill, who boasts an impressive list of mountain bike wins on her palmares, proved far too strong for her opposition in the women’s elite division.
Danielle Strydom finished second, 6:17 behind, with Karla Stumpf in third, 17:55 behind Lill’s winning time of 1:41:15 for the six laps.
