Mathieu van der Poel won the Strade Bianche one-day classic on the Piazza del Campo in Siena today.
The 26-year-old Dutch superstar underlined his talent with victory having recently won the opening stage of the UAE Tour which followed his UCI World Cyclo-cross World Championships title.
A select group comprising Wout van Aert (Jumbo-Visma), Julian Alaphilippe (Deceuninck-Quick-Step), Egan Bernal (Ineos), Tom Pidcock (Ineos), Michael Gogl (Qhubeka-Assos), Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates) and Van der Poel formed a breakaway with around 40km remaining in the 184km race on the famous white dirt roads of Tuscany.
