South Africa’s Daryl Impey dropped out of the top 10 of the UCI WorldTour rankings following the Giro d’Italia, which saw a major reshuffling at the top end of the standings.
Impey had secured his position near the top of the rankings when he won the Tour Down Under in January.

However, after finishing 45th overall at the Tirreno-Adriatico, 49th overall at the Volta a Catalunya, 11th at the Amstel Gold Race, 47th at the Liege-Bastogne-Liege and having not taken part in the Giro, the Mitchelton-Scott rider saw himself slip four places, from 10th to 14th.
The top two remained unchanged as Bora-Hansgrohe’s Peter Sagan and Movistar’s Alejandro Valverde retained their first and second positions respectively.
Major changes saw Mitchelton-Scott’s Simon Yates jump 16 places into third after winning three stages of the Giro while having also worn the maglia rosa for 13 days.
Quick-Step Floors’ Elia Viviani climbed 10 places up the rankings into fourth after winning four sprint stages in the Italian Grand Tour.
Team Sky’s Chris Froome, after winning the overall Giro as well as two stages and the King of the Mountains title, jumped a whopping 271 places into seventh.
After winning the first stage of the Giro and finishing on the podium in three others – while placing second overall – Team Sunweb’s Tom Dumoulin jumped 135 places into 13th.
Astana Pro’s Miguel Angel Lopez moved up 50 places into 17th after finishing third in the 21-stage race.
